Connect the SuperDrive and a USB flash drive to a Mac. Copy the contents of the Office DVD to the flash drive. Then plug the flash drive into the ultrabook. The benefit of this method is not having to do anything special to get the SuperDrive to work with the ultrabook and the installation of Office will be faster.
Im rebuilding a MacBook Air at work and ran into a problem..
After checking the install DVD I get the error:
The installer could not validate the contents of the 'BaseSystem' package
Ive ran a simple Hardware Test and that came back ok, its currently running an extended hardware test.
I am using the original Air install DVDs
Ive tried erasing the drive (SSD 64GB) and that made no difference..
Ive done some reading already on the net and this error usually points to a RAM issue, 3rd party RAM, but obviously this cant be the case with the Air..
Its a 1.8 Rev A with the original SSD and Im using the Superdrive..

- There are a few possible issues that could lead to your MacBook keyboard not working. One thing to note is that a MacBook keyboard isn’t like most other keyboards on the market. Instead of using a scissor-like mechanism, MacBooks feature a proprietary Apple butterfly-like keyboard with a slightly different design.
- Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) in case of DVD not playing on Mac after an macOS update. For the users with Macbook Pro/Air, please follow the steps below to deal with Macbook not playing DVD: Step 1. Shut down the Mac. Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your Mac.

Troubleshooting
Below are several possible symptoms you may see. Follow the steps for the appropriate symptom to figure out whether the issue stems from the drive or the media. Be sure to inspect discs before use to ensure they are not cracked, scratched, or otherwise damaged Inspection should include the inner ring of the disc which should be smooth and burr free. A disc with physical defects may become stuck in or cause damage to the drive.

- Make sure the drive is not upside down. The aluminum enclosure should be facing up.
- Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
- The MacBook Air SuperDrive is designed to be used with MacBook Air and Mac mini computers that do not have a built-in optical drive. For best results, connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
- Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
- Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
- Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopardor earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing 'About this Mac' from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
- OS X 10.7 Lion or later: Open System Information by choosing 'About this Mac' from the Apple () menu. Then, click System Report.
- If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.
